Community notes from Marathon report officer elections at the Byterian Society home of Mrs. A C Spalding. Various social visits, travels, and business moves are listed including mail and telephone office changes, beauty parlor staff updates, cattle shipments, radio installations, and local games where Marathon teams beat Marfa in junior and senior matchups.
The Baptist Missionary Society held a Bible study meeting Tuesday afternoon at Mrs Archie Miller’s home. Led by Mrs J K Dozier, the session explored Proverbs with lively discussion. Attending were Mesdames J Shorjimake Otto Lockhausen Tom Amiter Karl Fallas Abe Martin and L K Dorter.
A seventh birthday party for Karline Fallis drew many children to the home of Mr and Mrs Earl Fallis. Games included pinning and a grab bag contest won by Katherine Arnold and Clinton Ritchey. Refreshments featured Jello whipped cream and cake. Local families and friends from Alpine and nearby towns attended.
The Kokernot Ranch in the Davis Mountain country West Texas ships cattle to the Kansas City Market this week. Owner H L Kokernot Jr leads loads, with about 45,000 white cattle carried across several consignments. The ranch sits near Alpine at 6,000 feet, famed for nutritious tobosa grass and an elaborate watering system delivering mountain spring water via underground pipes to large cement tanks within reach of every section.
Ranch news covers Kokernot cattle market with 79 heifer calves at 375 pounds and 24 cows at 860 pounds selling at 47.50 and 5.25 per cwt. Cattle shipments include 25 cars to corn belt feeders. Allen Thompson of Missouri feeds seven cars and W H Typ five cars. Reuben Loeffier, Alpine High senior and editor of The Alpine Avalanche News, returns for holidays. his brother Louis, a 1923 graduate, shows strong progress at Sul Ross. The Avalanche advertises envelopes and writing supplies.
