Presidio County health officer Walter Stover reports a meningitis case from Marfa under treatment at County Memorial Hospital in Brewster. The case is responsive to treatment and no alarm is warranted says Brewster County health officer Dr. W E Lockhart. Close contacts should seek preventive treatment and anyone with fever sore throat or headache should obtain diagnosis and care.

Alpine records show 1965 precipitation at 13.42 inches, unofficial Avalanche figures. August led with 3.66 inches, June 2.47, and July 2.02. The five year average is 14.65, with 1961 at 19.60. Some areas reached record highs while others were unusually dry, especially north of Alpine with four inches or less.
