Alpine Texas February 8 1910 grand jury reports two felonies and condemns Progress City Town Site Company selling imaginary lots. They name Lee R Davis of Waco as owner of 1280 acres on San Diego Mountain 40 miles from Alpine accessible only by horseback.
The Brewster County Grand Jury warns of a land swindle tied to Progress City Town Site Company and agents in McLennan County. Deeds show 1000 plus lot transfers at $1.50 each to distant buyers, with Waco roots and broad Texas targets. plea for court action and wider publicity. The report urges sending copies to McLennan courts, postal authorities, and the Governor.
