Hereford Breeders Plan to Boost Meat Consumption

A Pecos County plan aims to raise meat intake with an underpass project on highway 67 near Fort Stockton and a beef industry outreach led by Hereford breeders. George Marpa of the Texas Highland country was named president of the Hereford Breeders as 65 members gathered to approve collaborations with livestock groups, the National Meat Board, chambers of commerce, and railroads to lift demand.

4-H Calves And Lambs To Be Shown Here Next Wednesday

Fourteen to twenty calves and about 20 lambs will be exhibited next Wednesday at 3 30 p m on Halen avenue near the 8 P depot. Calves led to El Paso after the show will enter the Southwestern Livestock show. Judge W W Sheen will rate the calves and Prof A J Blerschwale will place the lambs. Local ranchers are urged to attend and a lecture on better feeder calves will be given.

Favorable Formation Reported At Alpine Test Near Here

Drilling at the Dodson-Means test well 18 miles northeast of Alpine showed the formation highly favorable though no progress details could be confirmed this week. The well on Sec 9, Block 10, GHASA, exceeds 7000 feet depth with activity watched closely in the area. Drilling began on the WHL Kokernot ranch about 30 miles south of Alpine, by B D Wiles, Marta, on Rec 23, Block C J V Masry.

District Court To Open Next Week With Light Docket

Jurors are summoned for the February term of district court to convene here next Monday with Judge C R Sutton presiding. The docket is light and session expected short. Grand jurors report Monday. petit jurors Tuesday. The list includes many names such as John W Gillett Charlie Shely R W Arnold and others. The report notes a jury was locked up for the night in rebuked by authority.
