Rev Fulmer Improves After Dallas Hospital Operation
Word from Rev. M. M. Fulmer who underwent an operation in Baylor hospital Dallas last Tuesday and that the operation was successful and that he was making satisfactory improvement. Fulmer suffered a broken arm at age 11 which failed to knit properly after setting necessitating the operation. Mrs Fulmer accompanied her husband to Dallas and returned home Tuesday.

Legislation Creating Big Bend National Park Soon
Austin January report says a bill to create Big Bend National Park is being drafted and will be introduced in the House. Rep Cawthorn of Del Rio notes land funds are being raised by subscription. The park would include the Chisos Mountains and St Helena Canyon, about 70 miles south of Alpine and Marathon in Brewster County, with Mexico contributing to development on the opposite Rio Grande side. Work Begins On Holland Avenue Bridge Project In Alpine
Construction started this week on the Holland Avenue bridge and paving project in Alpine. The Austin contractor’s bid is 35974 dollars for a 98 foot box culvert bridge and asphalt paving from the Santa Fe underpass to Seventh street, with 100 working days to completion and local labor emphasis. Fifteen workers now on site, with up to fifty at times, traffic detoured north to College avenue during progress. Poll tax payments in Brewster county totaled 854 with 13 exemptions, per year end records. precinct tallies listed for East Alpine 241 West Alpine 214 No 2 South Alpine 125 No 3 Terlingua 36 No 4 Marathon 202 No 5 San Vicente 23. A death in Okmulgee, Oklahoma prompted Mrs. A R Stambaugh to travel there for the funeral of her niece, Miss Arelene Parker, a Sul Ross College student in 1998.

Alpine Cop Outwitted in Thrilling Rabbit Chase
Alpine's traffic officer Friday Campbell chased a quick fugitive who dodged the courthouse, ducked past a Holland hotel, and sped down Main Street after ignoring a stop sign. The rabbit fled toward Holland avenue and finally vanished across the S. P. railroad tracks toward the Big Bend.

Mrs Belle Henderson Dies At Alpine Ranch Home
Mrs Belle Black Henderson wife of W T Henderson prominent Jett Davis county rancher died at their ranch home twenty miles north of Alpine after a short illness. She was 85 and born in Georgia where her father headed a railroad company and a brother was a Confederate colonel. She moved to San Antonio, married in 1915, then lived in Alpine and later on the Tornillo farm. She was educated and a pianist, active in Chetan Science church, and reared two stepsons. Funeral at Presbyterian church with Rev Richard Irving, burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Survivors: her husband and two stepsons W G Henderson Temville and J C Henderson Alpine.
