Dr Powers and bandits tale from Boquillas raid

Upton County health officer and longtime Trans Pecos physician Dr Powers helped rescue American miners held by bandits near Boquillas in Old Mexico. He devised a plan to stall the looters, overpower armed captors, and guide the prisoners back to the border with help from miners and Mexican ranchers. The retreat lasted about four days with meals and whiskey provided to captors.

Merchants say holiday sales strong in Alpine and state

Holiday business rose for many stores with Alpine reporting peak sales this season since 1920. Shoppers bought earlier than last year, aided by federal aid funds released recently, and cities across Texas including San Antonio El Paso Abilene and San Angelo also noted better than usual Christmas trade.

Alpine Aims to Add Emergency Landing Field

Army control officer from Randolph Field visited Alpine and met with chamber of commerce and officials to designate Alpine as an emergency landing field. Local actions included painting around fair grounds, moving a fence, and leveling ground. County will blade the field. once completed the Army will mark it on maps as an emergency field.

Rotary Sponsors New Year Dance in Alpine

A fair attendance reported at the Alpine Rotary club’s dance last Saturday night. Some funds were raised for a Boy Scout jobhouse to aid boys’ work, with a second dance planned next Monday night to support the project. proceeds will equip the house, furnished by the relief committee, and the plan has been sent to Austin for final approval.

Mexican Is Killed in Fort Davis Area Shooting

Fort Davis Texas December 77 Magete alanche of Valentine is dead and Laura Revera of Valentine is in critical condition in Port Davis after a shooting near the Mexican dance hall. The incident occurred Christmas Eve. The suspect, known as alanche, had previously served part of a sentence for killing his own wife. Funeral services were held in Valentine.
