The new men’s residence hall at Sul Ross was formally accepted by the board of regents on Thursday, December 19, and will be ready for student occupancy after Christmas. Built of native stone in Spanish style, it features outside exposure rooms and a large inner patio. The building includes an art studio and standard staff quarters, with design by W. E. Ketchum and construction by J. F. Morgan and Sons. The project, along with related campus improvements, totals over $200,000 for this biennium.

Sul Ross cagers face one of the stiffest schedules in school history as Coach B C Graves announces the tentative 1935-36 season card. The Lobos beat A C C Wildcats Abilene twice 40-23 and 51-39 and show early form. Next game is against El Paso All Stars Jan 4 with a schedule including St Marys Jan 10-11 and A C C Abilene Jan 13-14 plus Texas Tech at Lubbock Jan 16.

Alpine residents kept Christmas quiet with stores closing early. A cold change brought rain and fog overnight. Churches held programs and the standout event was a Christmas tree program by clubs and missionary societies at the American Legion distributing fruit, nuts, and toys to hundreds of Alpine children. Several dances occurred around the city during the week.
A slow soaking rain from last Thursday through Sunday morning brought about 0.42 inch of moisture to Highland ranges. The moisture soaked in, followed by cooler temperatures and a few icy mornings. In Alpine last Friday a special election legalized sale of liquor by a narrow nine vote margin. Precinct No. 1 West voted dry 10 63, East 67 60, while South Alpine Mexican section voted wet 38 10. Liquor permits require two paper notices and state board approval. Two Williams sites and one Bobo site were listed for permits with locations in Sixth Street Hord building Mojave theatre Alpine and West Holland Avenue.
Fort Davis hosts a golden wedding anniversary dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Mulhern at their daughter’s Marfa home. About 44 guests attended with many relatives and friends joining the celebration, marking fifty years of marriage and including several Mullhern family members and local residents.

Congress in Washington moved toward designating the region as a national park once land transfer to the National Park Service occurs. State ownership and defined boundaries would cover about three quarters of a million acres with a Mexico park on the south side of the Rio Grande.
A fragment describes the Rio Grande’s Santa Helena Canyon southwest of the Chisos, a 12 to 15 mile long rock gorge with cliffs measuring 2100 and 2300 feet, seen by many as a mighty portal. Cecil Wheat, 32, a member of the 1923 Sul Ross football squad, died in a Pecos tourist camp from gunshot wounds in a case coroner says was personal safety related. A Mentone native, he played halfback and was a popular student. Survived by wife, father Jim Wheat, brothers Jim and Woodrow, sister Mrs. Bob Morehead, all of Mentone.
States move auto license payment deadlines with Texas among four extending beyond March. Some plates arrive. sale starts Feb 1, but legal use begins Apr 1. Other states list varying deadlines, while bills to defer dates may appear next year as legislatures reconvene after January.
A cash award of 175 dollars will be offered by the Granada theatre at its Money Night event next Tuesday. Miss Mildred Campbell, a San Angelo schools teacher who attended the Sul Ross college summer session this year, was drawn Tuesday night for 150 dollars.
