Sunny Glen Area Dam Proposal Near Alpine
The City of Alpine seeks a Texas Water Rights Commission permit to build a 5 069 acre-foot dam on Sunny Glen and Haystack Canyons 5 miles west. Project cost 1.5 million with annual use 2 000 acre feet. dam would supply 40 percent of city needs initially and 66 percent by 1975. Wells would continue for the rest. The dam sits on pasture land owned by Stradley Arthur and Mrs. Oscar Roberts. Public hearing to follow state review.

Fire damages Alpine garbage truck. it’s back in service
Alpine officials said a Dempster Dumpmaster garbage truck was damaged by fire Monday night. Smoldering garbage in a container apparently started the blaze, two tires were burned and brakes were damaged, but the vehicle has been repaired and is operating again.
