Origin and history of Christmas carols and Waits
The piece traces carol origins from English and Italian roots, noting the Puritans' suppression, Restoration revival, and the rise of Waits as carolers. It explains carol meanings, St Francis of Assisi’s role, and the 16th century spread into a Christmas custom with mummers, tumblers, and public alms.
