The 1962 deer season in the Trans Pecos area runs Dec 1 to Dec 15 with top antlers reaching 110 1/2 inches by Lee Martin of Pecos on Potter Ranch. Laverne Allen on Iron Mountain Ranch posted the heaviest at 198 pounds. Daily winners include Kim Lane Frosty Walker Jean Pate Troy Tate Don Saunders Jim Crouch Sandy Neal and Bill Barnsley. Type II Sabin oral polio vaccine will be administered Sunday January 6 with stations at Alpine Community Center Marathon Community Center Big Bend National Park HQ and five river stations. Medical director Dr W E Lockhart and county chair Avora Owens lead with no charge though voluntary contributions accepted. All under 21 require parental permission slips. More than 30 percent of Brewster County residents vaccinated, plus 2000 doses given across the river, prompting broad participation.

Alpine School Board Names New Teacher Tuesday
The Alpine School Board accepted the resignation of Mrs Laura Pattillo and elected Mrs Nancy Sue Hollingsworth to replace her. It approved private transportation for 13 families for the first quarter and agreed December salaries for faculty and custodial staff be paid on December 18.
