The New Torpedo Boat Destroyers
Three torpedo boat destroyers built at Maryland Steel Works exemplify the 1898 class. They measure 245 feet long with 28 foot beams, displace about 420 tons, and may operate in waters nine feet deep. Expected in commission by 1902, they promise speed, range, and seaworthiness in coastal and river work.
