Bones Of Ancient Indians Found In Davis Mountains
Archaeologists and Dr. Pierce of the University of Texas believe bones uncovered in the Davis Mountains represent a transition between central Mexico long heads and Mississippi Indians. The site near Kesey canyon yields small statured remains from red clay beds while another discovery near Phantom Lake hints at a possible ceremonial room. The region also reports first cotton base in the Balmorhea area, plus rich alfalfa and fruit crops despite desert reputation.

County Tax Rate Set at 86 Cents for 1925
County commissioners met Monday to set the 1925 tax rate at 86 cents, down from last year’s 88 cents due to bond principal payments. A two cent levy funds courthouse and jail renovation, otherwise the next year’s rate would have been 84 cents. A roughly half million dollar drop in assessed property value helped drive the budget decrease about $6,000 from the current year.
