Sul Ross State College will award 159 bachelor and master degrees at the summer convocation on August 21. Judge Brown of Texarkana and others will address graduates. Processional music by Korhonen and the Sul Music Department ensemble will accompany the ceremony.

School officials reported 43 gallons of white paint and 10 gallons of linseed oil used in painting Alpine school buildings.
Marfa Alpine Reservists To Return Home August Twentieth
Fourteen Marfa Alpine United States Army Reservists are set to depart Fort Bliss on Saturday August 20 for homeward travel. Returnees include M Sgts Lucio J Lujan and Beo L Sailler and Sp John J Spt Saul P Ceniceros, with others from Marfa and Alpine. Detachment officers 1st Lt Tommy L Hailey and 2nd Lt Robert E Dobbins will lead annual two week active duty training likely at Fort Hood later this year. The unit numbers 19 enlisted men and three officers and most members attended Fort Bliss Aug 7-21 for training tied to potential drill periods at Marfa.

Valadez to take part in Bright Star exercise at Fort Bragg
Specialist Four Tomas G Valadez Jr. of Alpine parents prepares with the 101st Airborne Division for Exercise Bright Star at Fort Bragg North Carolina August 13 2 2. The massive airborne assault will involve 30000 troops in STRAC plans and will be the largest such drop since World War II and Korea. He joined the Army in January 1955 and previously served in Germany. The 24 year old attended Alpine High School.
