Tuition Doubling Bill Faces Senate Action In Texas

The Texas House passed a bill by Rep Murray Watson to raise resident college tuition from 50 to 100 dollars across 18 state supported colleges and universities. The Senate state affairs committee approved the measure 10 to 7 and it waits on final floor action. Senator Jarrard Secrest says the bill is the only path to pay raises for public school and college teachers this session. Some oppose, arguing students should not bear the burden while the state and nation should fund higher education more heavily.
