Deputy state education chief inspects Pineville schools
On Tuesday afternoon April 13 Joe Umphries deputy state superintendent of education inspected all local system schools. He counted children in classrooms found one overcrowded room and reviewed exhibits of almost all high school teachers. He recommended using state approved forms for all written work and continuing the current program to improve maps and charts. He praised the visual aid program and the care of washrooms note improvements at Central school. He will submit a written report to D. L. Cross.

Lions Club Guest Night Highlights Music and Elections
The Lions Club hosted guests Mrs. Austin Dillon Mrs. Bill Wright Miss Betty Dillon and Tic key Shepperd with Jack Bow introduced as the new Junior Lion replacing Robert Cross. A nominating committee led by Boss Lion Criswell will choose officers for May. The program featured piano pieces by Mrs. Dillon and pupils including Roy Whiteside Tickey Shepperd Miss Dillon and a special vote honoring Mrs. Dillon. The report also notes a Texas education bulletin on guidance counseling and scholarships to Girls State Boys State in Austin, and praises Kansas as a leading producer of wheat minerals oil coal and gas.
