Officers include President John Dow Harris, Vice President Ernest Gibbens Jr, Secretary T R Knight Jr, Treasurer Paul Weyerts, Reporter Glynn Uranga, Parliamentarian Larry Jecker, Historian Douglas Dorris, Sentinel Kenneth Bishop, Song Leader Edward Wittner. They will be installed at the May meeting with Hobby Night featuring members sharing their favorite pastimes.
Dom Adams secretary M A Webb and Glenn Burgess Alpine Chamber leader attended Rotary Internationals 115th district conference in Albuquerque New Mexico during the week. Burgess reported on the 24th district Chihuahua City gathering and spoke on My Home Town. A Buhler paper on why the Alpine Clubs strong two year record was read. All district clubs except five were represented. Adams and Webb returned home Wednesday Burgess continued to Amarillo for a West Texas chamber meeting.
Fifty three attendees join the Baptist Brotherhood banquet for Royal Ambassadors at the college cafeteria Monday night. Rev Buren Sparks delivers the keynote. The program features songs, solos, piano and accordion pieces, a bass sermon on youth in the church, and group singing with welcomes and benediction.
Lt. Robt. L. Faber, radio supply sergeant at the air base, was killed and Lis. Earl F. Hamrock and Chauncey M. Kahl were critically injured when their car struck a culvert abutment on Highway 90 67 near the base Sunday night. They were returning from Marfa. the driver apparently dozed.
Funeral services for County Treasurer A. B. Sandifer who died after an extended illness were held at the Christian church Saturday afternoon at 3. Rev. M. A. Buhler officiated. Sandifer born February 17 1878 in Tam Alco NL moved to Texas at 17 settling in Normangee, Bryan, Alpine and later entering the grocery business. He served as County Treasurer from 1935 to 1993. Surviving are his widow three daughters two brothers a sister and three grandchildren. Interment in Elm Grove cemetery under Livingston Funeral Home. Pallbearers named.
Major General Ralph P. Cousins lauded the Pan American class of cadets, the largest at the advanced school, as Governor Alfredo Chavez and Brigadier General Emiliano Castrejon joined two thousand civilians in Alpine and Mart a Big Bend area for a celebration that underscored Pan American unity. The graduating class included cadets from 32 states, Hawaii, and Mexico with a ground and aerial review of RAF troops and bombers.
