Texas weighs truck load limit clash in Legislature
The push to raise highway load limits from 58 420 to 72 000 pounds faces opposition from the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association which warns of highway damage and bridges unable to bear heavier trucks. Texas Highway Dept. engineers noted most bridges cannot support 72 000 pounds, with only about 5 percent able to carry such loads. Citizens are urged to contact State Senator Hardeman and Representative Thurmond to oppose the increase.
