Old-Timer Cattle Stampede Tale From the Trail
In a reminiscence from Pt. Davie, experienced cowhands describe what can trigger a cattle stampede. A 1901 night drive near Alpine to the Indian Territory saw two thousand heifers rush past the camp, scattering the herd after a train alarm and a frightened remuda. The old hands recall various small triggers and the enduring mystery of what set the stampede in motion.
