The firm valued itself March at 231 000 to 800 000 with 150 000 capital. It owned about 152 000 in real estate in Lawrence L J and in New York City. Poor collections and dull market named as causes. The firm had been in business fifty two years.
At Port Hope on Monday Erastus Wiman and Benjamin Butterworth addressed farmers on commercial union. Wiman argued for closer trade ties with Britain and Butterworth supported free trade between Canada and the United States. A resolution favoring commercial union was adopted amid other measures.
