Washington January 14 Hon. Nelson Dingley Jr of Maine longtime congressman and former governor died at the House of Representatives building last night from heart failure brought on by extreme weakness due to pneumonia. Born February 1822 in Durham Maine he built a career as a journalist and politician serving in Maine legislature 1861 65 1868 78 governor 1874 75 and member of Congress since 1881. He declined cabinet offers and led the Ways and Means Committee famed for his plain speaking and precise methods.
