Terrible Accident A Steam Tug Blown To Pieces
A steam tug Dora Emory towing a stone horse exploded its boiler near Fifty-eighth Street while proceeding up the river in New York on December 3. Six men aboard were killed and debris showered toward First Avenue. The tow was cast off and later picked up by the Franklin Faison. no trace of the six crewmen was found. The tug’s crew consisted of Captain Garrett Morris and four others. the vessel had started with a snow lag to her aide and failed to overcome the strong flood tide at Hell Gate, leading to the disaster.
