An aged Ban gor merchant amassed a barrel of stray buttons during his life. After his death a search failed to find two buttons with the same pattern. In a separate note, Kine Humuenr of Italy won a gold medal for civil valor after a Rome house collapse in January, where he helped rescue injured occupants.
Immigration from foreign countries has raised the US population to over 15,000,000 people, with more than half arriving since 1870. In 1859, 444,500 arrived, and in the first four months of 1890, 92,862 landed at Castle Garden, compared with 74,454 in the same period of 1889.

In Diattaville Cyl Pearvsvile Co, Monday night Myrtle Lumry aged 6 and Lottie Lumry aged 4 died after a coal oil stove fire exploded while they tried to start a fire. Lottie inhaled flames and died shortly after. Myrtle suffered burns from the knees and died minutes later with injuries described as serious.
Decatur Illinois April 7 1906 crowds packed Power’s opera house for the 25th anniversary of the first Grand Army of the Republic post. Mayor Kanan opened the parade, readings and speeches followed with ex Governor Oglesby urging a national memorial hall. Founding members and later survivors noted in the program as the Dunham Post and early officers were saluted along with addresses by state figures and a choral piece.
Senator George F. Edmunds of Vermont announces resignation from the United States Senate to take effect November 1, 1891. He cites personal health and family reasons, plans winters in South Carolina, and says his act closes his public life though he remains a citizen of the republic.
Berlin April 7 German government has decided to withdraw the embargo on American pork. Official notice of withdrawal may be delayed due to ongoing negotiations between the German and U S governments through the United States minister.
Easter Sunday tragedy in White Oaks New Mexico ends in double suicide by two young women from Liberty Missouri. Portia Jill Doyle and Jessie Ridgley left notes saying death is sweet and they prefer it to life, dying in an old corral with revolver shots. They requested burial together in the same grave.
Fifteen thousand veterans and affiliated groups crowded Decatur streets and hotels on April 9 for the Grand Army of the Republic silver anniversary. The parade, 2,500 veterans long, featured Gen.
