The Algona press reports gate notices for lumber for burying ground fencing. It notes Judge Call settling swamp land claims, election contests in the Representative District, and federal fleet actions near New Orleans. It also covers Republican offices wins, local officials, and frontier war updates including Union and Confederate movements along the Potomac and Mississippi.
Washington dispatches detail Union forces under Brig. Gen. Porter occupying Ménor's Hill to the right of Valley Church, with Barrett's Hill and a rebel picket line nearby. Gen. McClellan and Capt.
