Notice announces the annual meeting of the Kossuth County Agricultural Society at the County Clerk's office in Algona on Monday, June 3, 1861, at 2 o'clock. Secretary Ambrose A. Call urges general attendance and outlines official action.
Hon J B Blackford representative and Judge Smith Enrolling Clerk departed yesterday morning for Des Moines to attend an Extra Session of the Legislature convening on the 15th inst.
A letter from an officer in Cairo dated April 30 describes 1600 troops stationed at a key point. Reinforcements are expected and guards have been posted six miles upriver. A boat was halted and contraband seized including powder kegs lead and revolvers in boxes labeled Stomach Burruns. Cannons are placed at all usable positions for defense amid planned actions by opposing forces.
The Indians of the Cattaraugus Reservation New York unanimously vote to organize an Indian regiment of one thousand to defend the United States Government. A deputation of twenty Indians led by White Cloud arrives in New York and tenders 800 warriors. The message notes the Cherokees have taken aides and neutrality cannot be maintained.
An Antipolis correspondent recalls Colonel Butler and the Massachusetts Regiment landing in Maryland. Authorities protested the passage on Maryland soil, but Butler stated they came as citizens and soldiers of the United States, not to invade a state, and pledged no offensive or stray violence on the route.

Albany May 6 John A Dix has accepted the Major Generalship of New York forces tendered by Gov Morgan Morgan.
The Board of Supervisors invites bids for a Des Moines River bridge in township 95 range 49 W. bids must include two responsible persons' names and bonds. The contract specifies log abutments and detailed timber framing, four spans totaling 125 feet, with king braces, braces, and iron bolts as per the plan by Janice Henderson. Bids open Saturday May 1860 at 1 pm at the County Clerk's office in Algona.
