World’s WCTU convention underway in Toronto

Toronto Ont Oct 26 AU arrangements preflow complete for the Worlds Woman's Christian Temperance Union convention. Banquet for delegates led by Miss Frances Willard with 100 trained young ladies as waiters. Executive committee met to handle business since last meeting two years ago and plan convention actions. Letters from Ceylon Burma and Chile requested missionaries. Burmah would cover half the expense, Chile has no money but wants a missionary, Ceylon would support if costs borne by the union. General officers to be elected at end, executive urged immediate pursuit of vacancies in auxiliary countries and officers to fill them as needed.

Big Building Blown Up In Detroit Explosion

Detroit, Mich., Feb. 28. A boiler explosion at a factory on Hancock avenue and Rinpelle street, in the northwestern city, caused fatalities and injuries. At least five men were fatally hurt, with one dying later, and ten more seriously injured. The blast wrecked the four story brick building. surrounding structures suffered broken windows as the northeast part of the city shook, though no fire occurred. The other workers escaped unharmed.
