Simple trap nest for poultry by a farm correspondent
Seven years ago I devised a trap nest which is simple and effective. It requires constant attention but I no longer use them. The design is easy to build with basic tools. The frame is a box about 13 or 14 inches wide and two feet long with a cross board at the bottom to hold nesting material and an eight inch square opening on one end.
Trap Nest Door Mechanism Instructions
Detailed notes describe installing a trap nest door with a half inch to three inch springs, fastening one end to the door and the other to the nest box side, using nails or strong pins. The spring tilts the door shut when pushed in and props two thirds open when released. A notch holds the prop, a floor stop prevents swinging, and a ventilated hinged cover is added. Check the nest hourly during use.
