Iowa City Vet Returns From Verdun Ambulance Service
Robert J. Shaw, Iowa University 1916 graduate, served four weeks with the American ambulance corps in France, endured nightly shell fire near Verdun, and now visits Iowa City before entering the University of Chicago. His friend Edward Kelly was killed after Shaw’s discharge, a fact Shaw only learns upon return.

Motor Licenses Due Under New Iowa Plan
Des Moines Secretary of State W.8 Allen will mail letters to motor vehicle owners urging early registration for 1917. The new law introduces three year plates but requires annual registration and fees. All fees due January 1 with 10 percent penalty after April 2 and 5 percent monthly thereafter. Vehicles used four years before August 1 pay half the regular fee. Cars bought after August 1 pay half the fee for the rest of the year.
