Grun dy Center Iowa Sept 60 W H Slifer acquitted by jury after five hours deliberation in a district court case charging him with poisoning his wife. Defense hinged on wife’s own death by suicide and a letter she wrote to him detailing intent. Prosecution effort to prove forgery failed and the community celebrated the verdict with a large reception for Slifer.

Brother Fatally Wounded by Brother in Iowa Quarrel

Anamosa Oct 1 James and a 17 year old near Iron Hill clashed over a horse and harness. James shot his brother Frank in the chest, the slug lodged near the back. The younger brother says self defense and was held on $500 bond awaiting grand jury. The wounded man married two weeks ago and forgave him before authorities. Banker's fall from Osceola to Des Moines affair ends in arrest

Des Moines police arrested John Lewis once a prominent Osceola bank cashier and Mrs A F Oldham at 3 30 am for adultery in a Victoria Des Moines apartment. Lewis, who paid $1000 in bank certificates for his appearance, appeared shaken as Mrs Oldham pleaded not to be jailed. The husband of Oldham, a Chicago Milwaukee St Paul railroad brakeman, signed the charge.

Annual Endeavor Meeting in Shenandoah Iowa

The nineteenth annual Iowa Christian Endeavor Union session will be held in Shenandoah October 7 to 9.
