Auto burns to wreck at Coal Valley outing
Max Meyers of La Verne lost his $3000 auto in a fire at Coal Valley Illinois during a day trip with a group of locals. The burning car, insured for $1700, could not be saved despite efforts of Meyers and nearby miners. The party returned home by rail.

Auto Wreck Kills Bancroft Man Injures Two Others
A Wednesday evening auto wreck near Bancroft left R. R. Richmond of Bancroft dead and Mary Hanen, 14, and Frank Kennedy injured. Richmond, Hanen, and Kennedy were occupants as the vehicle overturned after leaving the Hanen family for Webster City. The Hanen girl was taken to Algona hospital with serious injuries, while Kennedy sustained a broken collar bone and bruises. The incident follows tensions between Richmond and the girl's family over their relationship and travel plans. The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. officials report. The community also notes a Swedish Lutheran supper benefit and various local business moves and travels in Algona and surrounding townships.

Death of Sylvester S. Rist
Sylvester S. Rist died at his home south of town early Wednesday morning after a month long illness. An early settler and former county treasurer, he would have turned 80 in December. His wife Mrs. Rist passed away several years ago. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Baptist church.
