Tub Factory Burns In Algona Fire Strikes Spurbeck Lambert Unit

A major blaze destroyed the Spurbeck Lambert butter tub factory in Algona late Thursday night. Firefighters saved the rear section and outbuildings while most of the building contents were lost. The cause remains undetermined, with accidental ignition considered more likely than arson. The plant employed twenty or more workers and insured losses were likely half the value. The city may extend water mains to improve fire protection and consider night staffing or a gasoline motor to power essential equipment.
