Iowa lawmakers backed a bill to create a seven member State Conservation Commission to survey rivers, study drainage, forests, minerals, and to coordinate with the U S Geological Survey. The commission would begin work by July 1 1909 with a secretary and annual costs funded from a 5000 appropriation.
