J. B. Ashby of Audubon a leading Hereford cattle breeder was instantly killed half a mile west of Avoca when the car he rode in with J. A. Shade of Kingsley slid into a ten foot embankment. Ashby’s neck was broken. Shade was injured but not seriously. They had been at Harlan attending a stock gate and were bound for Omaha on business. The muddy road caused the car to skid and overturn.
