Algona Rail Depot Speculation Sparks Main Line Talk
An Algona resident overheard Mason City railroad men discuss making the 1. L and D line the Milwaukee system’s Pacific coast main line. They proposed straightening curves at Algona and Ruthven, routing near the steam fencing mill, crossing the N W road, and locating the depot west of Thorington gates. The plan, if feasible, could benefit both the road and town, though big outlays may be needed.
