In Oskaloosa on June 4 Frank Stevens son of James Stevens a wealthy Ma haska county farmer drowned in Steddom's pond northeast of the city while swimming with two non swimmers. The boys had been fooling men at work by crying for help as a joke causing Stevens to venture beyond his depth and drown after hours in eight feet of water as bystanders failed to respond.
