Remonetize silver urged to aid China payment demands
Ex Senator W B Chandler argues in a Washington Post letter that remonetizing silver is essential for China to repay indemnities to the United States, England and France, proposing a 20 to 1 ratio and warning of a looming money panic as silver collapses from demonetization. The letter notes silver as money for half the world and cites global poverty unless reintroduced as metal money. It also mentions local items about ginseng seed proceeds near Clear Lake and a Rock Island train incident leading to a drunkenness case.
