Mob Roughs Up Wife Beater at Jail Breakout

In Laurens a mob of about forty seized A. I. Puls from the city jail while the nightwatchman was away. They carried him to the Rock Island and Northwestern crossing and tarred and feathered him, forcing him to flee the town. Puls, known as Liddie De Wicks, had been jailed on a choking and beating charge involving a crippled wife and seven children. Mayor Henry denounces the act and seeks to recover Puls and punish the mob, with officials unable to identify offenders.
