National Bank Failure Forces Closure by Comptroller
Washington June 28 Comptroller Dawes ordered the closing of the Seventh National Bank of New York and named Forrest Raynor temporary receiver. Dawes cited a large indebtedness of Henry Marquand & Co. to the bank around 1.6 million secured by doubtful collateral, warning that unless the loan were covered by Saturday night deposits a receiver would be appointed. The bank’s week ending June 22 reserves and deposits were listed with capital 376000, profits 254400, loans 4407100, specie 557700, legal tender 277060, deposits 24002100, reserve 234-10.
