Cresco All Stars beat Hobart 3 to 2 after ten innings. Sparks homered and later Sparks stole second and scored the winning run in the tenth. Omeren and Sparks led Cresco with key hits and stolen bases. Next Sunday July 4 Cresco faces Lotts Creek at Seim's Grove near Whittemore with a community picnic.

New Iowa Laws Set To Go Into Effect July Fourth
A long list of new Iowa laws passes last session and becomes operative on July 4. Changes include rotation of candidate names, county attorney enforcement duties, jury service adjustments for judges and dentists, higher juror pay, smoking bans for minors, compulsory education for deaf and blind children, hospital funding and tax shifts, and updates to employment and safety rules. The Cedar Falls Normal School becomes State Teachers College, and county poor farms are renamed County Homes.

Fast Board of Supervisors Beat Train Run in LuVerne
Citizens in Kossuth county brag about a bold race by the Board of Supervisors, minus Hall, chasing two trains at LuVerne. The officials sprinted to the N W train, halted the engine with a bell pull, and boarded exhausted yet triumphant, claiming they could outrun any board in the state.

Hand Drilling a Drainage Well by Auger
Mr H C Klamp of northwest Plum Creek drills a drainage well by hand for a slough of seven to eight acres. He began in March and by Monday had reached 83 feet using a gas pipe auger with improvised crank and pulley. Seventy feet penetrated blue clay sealing water.
