Food for Thought on Corn Value Distribution
An Algona letter to the editor argues the producer receives only a fraction of the corn’s value after chain costs. It calculates that 30 seats per bushel at the elevator, transport, milling, and merchant charges leave the producer with one thirtieth of the price, while questions arise about the remaining twenty nine thirtieths and the four fifths of value. The writer suggests building mills nearby to reduce losses.
