Des Moines January 6 within a week of legislative opening the Iowa state capitol burned badly destroying the senate chamber and much of the interior while water soaked many offices. Governor Cummins and others led efforts to save the library and treasurer funds as firemen battled the flames and a swift rescue cut off spread toward the senate chamber.
