Swedish Lutheran leader election reported in state news

Alfred Wissing of Sioux City Oscar Danielson of Marathon and A Hubquist of Swedesburg were elected to 63 member executive committees for one year of the Swedish Lutheran Churches of Iowa at the conference. Mrs. C A Randolph of Ronne was elected president of the Women’s Missionary Society, with Mrs A Norrham of Des Moines as vice president and Mrs N E Korn of Dayton as secretary. The report also notes legal actions, prison reforms, and various local events across Iowa.

Fire safety reform urged for new buildings nationwide

After a session the Iowa Cooperative Grain Dealers convention closed with a banquet and smoker at the Calloway club. The new nine member board will elect officers from among its members and set the next convention city. Resolutions urge better farm homes to keep youth from cities, promote rural schools on modern business lines, study a proposed cooperative rural bank, and support good roads laws. The members demand prison made twine.

Three Stores Burned on South Frederick Street

Three frame buildings on the west side of the first block at 4 South Frederick Street burned Friday morning. They housed the Star bakery, Wiams barber shop, and Beebes real estate and insurance office. Firefighters confined the blaze to the three structures owned by attorney G. H. Philips. no insurance coverage was reported. J. E. Butler of the Star bakery carried 1200 dollars in insurance and Bert Williams insured fixtures in his shop.

Rural Jobs in Degtrable Debated by True Blue Club

The True Blue Club, a new group of about 250 young women at Teachers College, debated rural schools versus city graded schools. They argued rural positions are more desired as teachers prepare for rural work. Meanwhile Oskaloosa merchant Peter Schmitt, a longtime Mason and local tailor, died from an internal snow accident. Clinton Institute gets a Clinton tax notice.
