Bond financing for Drainage Districts in Kossuth County
The November 1916 proceedings detail bond authorizations for multiple Drainage Districts in Kossuth County Iowa. Bonds totaling various sums were authorized with 5 1/2 to 6 percent interest, due in seven annual installments from 1920, plus appointments of appraisers and commissioners, settlements of appeals from assessments, and contract approvals for district improvements including tile drains and a bridge. The board adjourned and reconvened across dates November 2 to November 4, 1916, with numerous resolutions adopted and bids opened for drainage construction.

Christmas Gatherings Fill Portland Families
In Portland Two area families hosted Christmas reunions attracting many relatives. Mr. and Mrs. John Dittmer hosted six children and kin from nearby towns, while Miss Lundell organized a room party where each child drew a name to give a gift. The community shared meals, church groups met, and many residents traveled or stayed for the holidays.
