Farmers contemplate cooperative packing plant in Monticello
A large meeting of Jones county farmers convened in the Monticello public library to discuss forming a cooperative packing plant. The biennial report prepared for publication by the auditor of state shows the last assembly cost Iowa about 220 909 50 dollars with salaries rising by 72 550 dollars. Expenditures included members and employes salaries, mileage, chaplains, visiting committees, contests, and inaugural expenses. Revenue estimates for the two years beginning July 1 1914 total 9 776 800 dollars with 3 200 000 from the general state tax. total receipts for the two years ending July 1 1914 were 12 506 256 84. The railroad commission spent 92 270 79 guarding freight rates and service. state institutions cost 2 805 000 to maintain.
