Onions and quarrels mix in Swea City letters
A dated squibster letter from Swea City mocks a local firm and its paper, then uplitly retells unrelated agriculture notes and a Minnesota pastor Sequin scandal as small town chatter. It mentions a police trunk dispute with Irene Griman, Britt and Des Moines gossip, and a Fort Dodge street brawl over a single lady leaving two men battered.

Manure boosts crop yield on East Town farm
The Horsewell brothers measured a 25 acre field near their father’s farm and found a manure treated area averaged 754 bushels per acre versus 50 bushels on an adjacent unfertilized field. Spreading manure raised the current value by about $7.50 per acre, while preharvest soil enrichment doubled as a notable profit. Peter Puttstuck returned to Illinois but bought a quarter section near Wesley, Iowa for 9750 dollars at 61 per acre, forecasting relocation after next year to the newly purchased farm seven miles north of Wesley.
