Annual Kossuth County Historical Society Meeting Delights Small Crowd
The Kossuth County Historical Society held its annual meeting last Thursday evening despite bad weather and competing events. R F Reed presented local history, Mrs E G Bowyer and D T Smith sang period songs, and two papers by O W Robinson and W D Eaton were read. Eaton recounted Spirit Lake Indian scare and Irvington defense, including a notable 1857 sheriff tenure, with a tale of two bridesmaids who stayed behind during the attack and the first Kusuth county marriage witnessed by W D Eaton. A fort was built near Irvington and a comic incident with George Wiltfrong, who was dipped in the river, ended with his defection. The evening ended with more songs and general praise for the event.
