Fifty Thee Bodies Recovered In Monongah Mine Disaster
Fire and collapse at Pall Mont coal mines in Monongah West Virginia after an explosion. Rescue crews recovered fifty three bodies by nightfall as hope fades for many more with estimates of up to four hundred dead. Fire in mine No 8 hampered rescue efforts but is expected to be controlled soon. Over 100 bodies located in both mines remain to be retrieved once flames are quenched.

Sunday Theaters Hit By Grand Jury Indictments in KC
A Kansas City grand jury returned indictments against 201 theatrical managers and players at local theaters for working on Sundays. The sheriff served warrants at 4:30 p m as matinees ended, and arrestees were brought before Judge William Wallace in criminal court to post bonds. All theaters except Willie remained open Sunday.

In Akron Ohio on December 8 a two year old girl named Marie Wingerter visited her father Philip Wingerter jailed on a bartender murder charge. The child slid a small hammer wrapped in paper through the bars and pleaded with him to knock them off. She had found the hammer in Nome and brought it to the jail without the mother’s knowledge.
