Drafted Men Told to Bring Only Small Baggage for Camp Dodge

Des Moines reports mobilization rules for the Thirteenth Division. Drafted men may carry only minimal personal effects, with toilets and underwear in right-hand baggage or bundled. 13,000 in the first increment will entrain September 3, with local boards handling reporting and alternates. Des Moines reports President Wilson may have the government operate mines that cannot profit under maximum prices. South Des Moines mines claim higher costs than allowed, threatening coal supply for the city. Iowans to aviation corps at Fort Snelling training camp

Des Moines reports fifteen Iowa men from the first officers training camp at Fort Snelling will transfer to aviation service to study war flying at Princeton. Names include Hugo Bottger, Paul Calder, Marcus Dubel, Clifford Verguson, Thomas Gardner, Bernard Glatts, Henry Huber, George Holmes, Alison Johnson, Jack Longstreet, Carl Myers, Fred Meinzer, Albert Muir, Leo Watson, Edgar Williams, Stephen Walker. Thirty Iowans who failed to secure commissions will try again at the second camp, with a long list of applicants such as James Adolson, Floyd Bump, Henry Chittenden Jr., Shannon Charlton, Edmund Chase, Paul Caswell, David Dancer, Howard Edmondston, Harry Gross, Harold Hartman, Harold Tabileta, Henry Hart, Byron Kingsbury, Carl Kuehnle, Harry Leadham, Roger Leavitt, Warren Langwith, Charles Loufek, Oliver Murphy, Harold Montgomery, Dewitt Nedham, Rog­er Leavitt, John Turner, Irving Webber, Charles Walton, among others.
