New York Editors Arrested Over Whisky Trust Libel Case

Alexander C Lassen and D Demerritt editors of the Wall Street Fi Havelal News were arrested on a criminal libel warrant issued by Police Justice Ryan in the Tombs court. The whisky trust president Joseph B Greenhut alleged the Financial News published an article about a receiver for the trust. The editors were paroled after examinations were adjourned to August 8 and then again. They appeared before the grand jury after subpoenas and spoke minimally, asserting Greenhut fears a public examination and promising cross examination if indictments are not brought.
