Washington Aug. 17 The cruiser Ranger now at San Diego has been ordered to proceed south to Panama. It is expected she can depart without delay after warning to prepare for the journey. Phillips Company Fails as Receiver Takes Over
Chicago August 14 A bankruptcy petition is filed in U S district court at the request of three creditors against the George H Phillips company. George I Phillips and two other directors consent to the petition and the Chicago Title and Trust Company is named temporary receiver. The firm remains in business with W K B Sackett to run operations. Phillips says the company is insolvent with liabilities near 200000 and assets around 225000 to 250000, of which about 100000 are worthless. He plans to compensate creditors from profits above 2400 yearly and will resume business personally after offering concessions.
