Des Moines reports Iowa dairy and food commissioner W. B. Barney announces a state wide crusade against short measures after a meeting with Attorney General Cosson. Inspectors will test scales and measures in food shops while households are urged to purchase by weight. The guide lists standard bushel weights for many items and warns of penalties up to 500 dollars or ninety days in jail for violations.
Iowa faces an initial shortfall under the new auto tax law. The first apportionment totals just over 111000 dollars, with about 16090 for state expenses and the rest to counties for road building. Costs to issue plates and deliver them nearly equal the state share, plus postage and payrolls add further expenses. The Aug 1 distribution may be delayed due to county auditors not reporting township counts.
